Meet The

Plum Bottom Ayrshires

Beginning in 1956 the Plum Bottom Ayrshires assembled twice per day for milking. You’ll notice a point value next to some, this was their Dairy Type Classification. Twice every year a herd is judged by a classifier and each cow is awarded a number 50-97. The number is determined by the animal’s physical features, where certain features correlate with longevity and productivity of the animal (sort of like the criteria of a dog show). We’re very proud that most of our herd earned 90+ (Excellent) or 85-89 (Very Good) score.
